Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders reacts to 1-0 defeat at Hayes & Yeading

Jay Saunders felt Maidstone created more than enough to get something at Hayes & Yeading.

The Stones boss saw his side beaten 1-0 at York Road on Saturday - a third defeat in four National League South matches.

There were promising debuts for Vas Karagiannis and Dan Sweeney but Stones' lack of goals continues to concern Saunders.

He said: "I don't think we deserved to lose the game to be honest but it's the same old story, we're not taking our chances and if you don't, you don't win games of football.

"We've let a poor goal in then we've put a lot of stuff in their box and not got on the end of anything.

"It's like I've just said to the boys, I've been quite critical of the lads a bit deeper about the balls we've put in the box and today I thought we put some good stuff in, I thought we created quite a lot but never looked like we had that killer touch and it costs you.

"The one that summed it up for me is when Vas has crossed it and it's trickled across the goalmouth and not one person's gambled on it.

"That's a tap-in and I don't know how no one's got on the end of it."

Saunders revealed Alex Flisher missed the match due to a tight hamstring, while Adam Birchall wasn't selected.

Alex Brown made a winning start to his one-month loan at Ryman League Leatherhead.
The Maidstone midfielder helped the Tanners beat Brentwood 1-0.

Saunders said: "He needs games. I looked at it, I think he's had two games in about three months.

"Against Bognor I thought he looked a bit rusty and I had a chat with him and he needs to get his sharpness.

"You've got to remember Browny was playing every game for us at the start of the season, he's a big part of my plans and someone I like a lot."
