Sean Noakes produced a devastating fifth-round knockout at Wembley Arena.

Maidstone welterweight Noakes floored Colombian opponent Santiago Garces (4-13-2) with a big right hand to secure a fourth successive victory since turning pro last year.

The fight was quickly waved off, with Garces down for some time before coming round.

“To be fair, it was a good shot,” said Noakes, 27.

“I hurt him in the second round and my coach just said to calm down and relax.

“That’s what I did. I stayed calm and composed the whole fight and finished it in the fifth.

“As soon as I hit him, and the way he went down, I said to the ref there’s no way he’s getting up. He was on the floor for five or six minutes after it was waved off.

“At first I was celebrating the knockout and then when he didn’t move, you do get worried because as much as you want to win, you don’t want anyone to get injured.

“I made sure he was all right. I went and checked on him and tried to have a conversation via his interpreter in the dressing room.”

It was the second stoppage of Noakes’ fledgling career and his best display yet at one of the most famous venues in the world.

“It was definitely my best performance,” he said.

“Everything went well - I was very happy with it and I got the knockout of the night.

“He was a good kid. He’s boxed for a youth world title, which he didn’t win, but he was a good opponent.

“It was great to fight at Wembley Arena. It’s the best place I’ve boxed at so far.

“I’ve ticked off York Hall, the Copper Box Arena and now Wembley Arena.

“The Albert Hall is the next one I want to tick off. I’d love to jump on a show there.

“The pro game suits me well. I’m learning something new in each fight.

“I’m training well and getting good sparring. I’m improving all the time.

“I get married in July, so I’m hoping to get one or two more fights in before then.”
