Stones to make 'striker abuse' statement

MAIDSTONE United are to issue a statement at 10.30am this morning following allegations that Horsham deaf and mute striker Lee Farrell was abused by those sitting on the home team bench during the Sussex club's 2-0 win at Bourne Park on Saturday.

Horsham manager and former Stones' goalkeeper Johnny Maggs was dismissed as the teams left the field at half-time following an alleged altercation with Maidstone joint-manager Lloyd Hume.

Horsham secretary John Lines confirmed that the matter would be discussed at a board meeting on Tuesday night when members would decide whether or not to make an official complaint to the Football Association.

Mr Lines said: "We shall certainly refer the matter to the Ryman League."

Maidstone chairman Paul Bowden-Brown declined to comment until after the release of Wednesday's statement.
