Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders wants an end to flare play

Manager Jay Saunders has urged Maidstone fans to stop letting off flares or risk getting themselves and their club in trouble.

The Stones boss appealed to supporters after the second incident in as many games at Ebbsfleet on Tuesday night.

It followed the release of a flare in the North Stand during the home match with Maidenhead on the opening day.

Saunders said: "Can I just ask our supporters, as great as they are, to stop the silly flares. I don't think it's needed.

"It would be much appreciated if we could give that a miss in future games.

"That's maybe a step too far and I don't want the club getting in trouble and our fans getting in trouble because they've been great."
