Maidstone United goalkeeper Lee Worgan needs clean sheets to pay for his wedding!

Lee Worgan collected an award for 200 Maidstone appearances but the clean-sheet bonus eludes him.

Worgan received his memento before the 4-2 win over Chester last Saturday - match No.201 for the Stones keeper.

He’d been hoping for just a third National League shut-out of the season - and a first since September - as United opened up a 4-0 lead.

But his research on Chester’s penalties went to waste when James Alabi - not their regular taker - scored from the spot to leave the keeper waiting for his next bonus.

Worgan, who marries fiancee Laura Wilson this year, said: “My missus is going absolutely mental! I dread the phone call to be honest.

“I sat on my iPad at half nine this morning going back through Chester’s penalty takers.

“It’s a lad I know, Tom Shaw, and he came off at half-time, so that was my morning wasted.

“It’ll be sparkling wine rather than champagne at my wedding, it looks like.

“It’s been difficult for me really because I want to make saves - but they all seem to be going in.”

Worgan hasn’t missed a league game since joining from Tonbridge three-and-a-half years ago, making 167 consecutive appearances.

Cup games have taken him past the 200 mark.

He said: “I didn’t have a clue. I hadn’t actually been keeping track.

“It was more the consecutive league games that I’d been keeping track on.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for me and if I can plugging away, I’m a happy man.”
