Police seize speakers in Bushey Wood as part of crackdown on unlicensed parties

Police have seized music equipment as part of a crackdown on illegal raves.

Officers are warning organisers of unlicensed music events they could face prosecution following the seizure of sound equipment in an area of Bushey Wood, a rural location between Aylesford and Rochester.

Closer inspection, last Sunday, revealed an area had been cleared for what is believed to have been an illegal party.

In a separate incident, the previous day, police in Sevenoaks were called to Crampton’s Road at around 11pm, following reports a large gathering had entered an industrial unit.

Officers successfully prevented an event from going ahead and ensured those who attended later left the location peacefully.

Insp Nick Sparkes warned that both organisers and partygoers could be committing crimes including criminal damage and public order offences by attending such event.

He said: "Kent Police encourages people to enjoy themselves at lawful and licenced music events, balanced with residents’ having a right to peace and a quality of life.

"Unlicensed events can be extremely disruptive for local communities, and can cause damage to commercial premises, the countryside and farmland.

"It is important to also remember that unoccupied and unmaintained properties can pose significant dangers to anyone who enters.

"We will continue to take robust action where appropriate and this could mean bringing people before the courts.

"Gatherings of this nature are generally attended by young people and we are also reminding parents to make sure you know where your children are and make them aware of the potential dangers and possible consequences of attending unlicensed events."
