Power restored to more than 500 homes and businesses in the West Malling area after supplies were temporarily disconnected

More than 500 homes and businesses were left without power after engineers turned off supplies.

People living and working in the West Malling area were plunged into darkness at around 9.07am today.

According to UK Power Networks, 547 properties were affected, between Snodland and Kings Hill.

Engineers turned off supply to the customers in the Ryarsh Road area of West Malling as it was reported there was a fault on the overhead electricity network.

Most houses have regained power with workers still trying to reconnect supplies to one customer.

A statement from UK Power Networks said: "For safety reasons, engineers turned off supplies to 547 customers in the Ryarsh Road area of West Malling between 9.07am and 10.18am, after a report of a fault on the overhead electricity network.

"Engineers are working to reconnect supplies to one customer.

"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused."
