Man suffers burns putting out fire in children's bedroom in Portland Road house in Wouldham

A man had to be taken to hospital with burns after putting out a fire in a child's bedroom.

The blaze, thought to have been caused by a faulty water heater socket, started in an airing cupboard at a home in Wouldham just after 12.40am today.

It had already been extinguished by the residents by the time firefighters arrived at the house, but crews inspected the room to make sure it was safe.

They also gave the man first aid after he suffered burns to his hand.

He was placed in the care of paramedics and taken to hospital as a precaution.

It is thought the fire started when the faulty socket had set light to some clothing and bedding that was stored in the airing cupboard.

It caused minor damage to the wall inside the cupboard.
