Arrest after two separate robberies in Gillingham with the victims in their 70s

An 18-year-old man from Chatham has been arrested after two elderly women were robbed in Gillingham.

The first incident is reported to have happened on Friday November 27 at around 6.30pm.

The victim, a woman in her 70s, was walking along Borough Road when she was approached by a man who snatched her purse from her hand.

At around 5.50pm on Saturday November 28, another woman, also in her 70s, was walking along Burnt Oak Terrace when she was approached by a man.

He grabbed hold of her, causing her to fall to the ground, and left with her handbag.

DC Karen Buss, investigating officer at Kent Police, said: "Inquiries into both incidents are ongoing and officers are investigating the possibility that the two incidents are linked."

The suspect has been bailed until February 10 next year for further enquiries.
