Rochester man arrested on suspicion of GBH after Cuxton Road in Strood taped off by police

A man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after a man was left fighting for his life following a town centre attack.

Police put up a large cordon in Cuxton Road, Strood, yesterday morning following reports of an assault at 11.10pm the previous night.

It started at the petrol station near Papa Johns and included Cuxton Road Car Sales and Halfords Site. It has since been removed.

A man was taken to a London hospital where he is fighting for his life following the incident near Gun Lane, opposite the junction with London Road.

Following the incident, a 45-year-old man from Rochester has been arrested.

He remains in police custody while inquiries continue.

Businesses and residents in the area were unaware why the large cordon was put in place yesterday morning.
