Asda staff came to the aid of shoppers stuck in its car park during yesterday’s snow.

As roads came to a standstill in Medway many shoppers at the store in Maidstone Road, Chatham, found themselves unable to get out of the car park.

Bosses instructed staff to go out with free tea and coffee and hot chocolate.

Steve Marshall duty manager, said: “When the snow started to fall we got the JCB to clear it from the car park.

“The problem was motorists couldn’t get out on to the Maidstone Road as it was grid-locked and then Blue Bell Hill was closed too.

“We also gave any children fruit juice and motorists were pleased with our efforts.

“Some people spent a few hours trying to get out onto the road, but we managed to stay open all night.

“Trade is steady today (thursday) and my staff made sterling efforts to get in so we can remain open.”
