Athletes will soar high into Rochester Cathedral this morning at the launch of the British Transplant Games.

Trampolines will be installed in the venue for a performance to kick off the Games in Medway next year.

Hundreds of athletes, all of whom have had an organ transplant, will descend on the Towns from August 23 to 26, for the sporting event.

The Games, which will be held at Medway Park, seek to highlight the benefits of an organ donation and increase the number of people on the donor register.

More than 100 people are expected to attend the launch event, including young George Penhaligan.

The eight-year-old, from Spendiff, near Cooling, whose life was saved when his father gave him his kidney, will tell his story and encourage people and businesses to get involved.

The Games, which will take place between the Olympics and Paralympics, are estimated to put £2.5 million into the Kent economy.

People are encouraged to sign up to the donor register and also enter a donor run, which will cover distances ranging from 3km to 5km.
