A car has gone up in flames on the coastbound M2 at Junction 4 for Gillingham

A car has gone up in flames on the hard shoulder of a motorway.

Firefighters were called after the vehicle caught fire near Junction 4 for Gillingham at about 6.10pm.

It happened on the coastbound carriageway, right by the turn-off for Gillingham and Hempstead.

There were reports that all traffic had been held while crews dealt with the blaze.

Police blocked off part of a lane while the wreckage was recovered.
