Car fire closes part of M2 at Chatham

A car fire closed one lane of the M2 this morning.

The vehicle caught alight around 7.30am today (Monday) on the coastbound section of the motorway near junction 3 for Chatham and the A229 Blue Bell Hill.

Firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the flames, which started in the vehicle’s engine.

One of four lanes was closed while emergency services recovered the badly damaged vehicle from the hard shoulder.

The road was cleared and re-opened around 8.30am.

No one was injured in the incident.
