Overturned lorry shuts M2 between Chatham and Gillingham for seven hours

A lorry overturned on the M2 last night and closed the coastbound carriageway for more than seven hours.

The car transporter is believed to have been involved in a crash with a car when it rolled up a grass embankment, rolled down again and ended up upside-down blocking the carriageway.

The accident happened at about 10.15pm between the Chatham and Gillingham turn-offs.

No one was seriously injured and the lorry, which was empty, is believed to have only clipped the Mini.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the scene while they dealt with the incident and the lorry driver was treated for a cut to his hand.

The carriageway was closed until the lorry could be removed and was reopened at 5.40am.
