Child flown to hospital with serious injuries after Gillingham crash

A child has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car in Gillingham.

Emergency services were called to Cornwallis Avenue at about 3.30pm after the youngster was hurt.

The child has been airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

A Medway Police spokesman said: "We were called at 3.30pm to reports of a young child being in collision with a car.

"South East Coast Ambulance Service attended to the child, who was then taken by air ambulance to a London hospital.

"Injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening. Cornwallis Avenue has been closed at junction with Beechings Way while officers deal with the incident."

Neither the child's sex or age are yet known.
