Plane remains in tree after crash near Robin Hood pub in Blue Bell Hill, Rochester

A plane remains in a tree after it crashed in woodland after leaving Rochester Airport yesterday.

The light aircraft is in two parts near the Robin Hood pub in Blue Bell Hill.

Friends Ruth Samson, 49, and Timothy Nathan, 65, took off around 11am before losing power and crashing.

They were stranded in the cockpit until 3.30pm, when they were finally rescued by a cherry picker.

The area is still taped off with police not allowing anyone through due to the aviation fuel, which can be smelt.

It is not known when the plane will be recovered, as it is down to an insurance company.

The couple visited the scene again this morning to look at the aircraft and take pictures.

Robin Hood landlord Andy Selby, 53, was in the shower when the plane crashed.

Speaking yesterday, he said: "I didn't see it but I heard all the commotion; there was a plane and then there was a helicopter which came over."

After being recovered, the couple were taken to the pub to be checked by paramedics, and no injuries were reported.

Speaking about the incident, Mr Nathan said that they were "very very thankful for all the emergency services".
