Joe Martin will play no further part of Gillingham’s promotion season after fracturing a toe.

The 23-year-old left-back picked up the injury during a first half challenge in last week’s defeat to Cheltenham Town.

Martin (pictured) has been a regular starter for the Gills this season, making 41 appearances for the club. Only injury has kept him out of Martin Allen’s side.

Martin will now have to watch from the sidelines as the Gills look to wrap up the title on Saturday) at home the AFC Wimbledon.

Several other players picked up injuries at Cheltenham, including Leon Legge and Charlie Lee, and they will be monitored closely for the rest of the week.

Those injury concerns led Allen to withdraw Adam Birchall, Callum Davies and Danny East from a reserve game at Leyton Orient on Tuesday afternoon, as a precaution. A young Gills side won the game 3-2.
