Medway Tunnel accident sees traffic delayed between Chatham and Strood after van and car crash

A crash involving two vehicles forced a busy stretch of road to be blocked this morning.

Drivers faced delays on the A289 Medway Tunnel Strood-bound following a collision between a van and car.

It caused heavy traffic from Maritime Way in Chatham to Anthonys Way in Wainscott.

A spokesman for the force said: “Kent Police was called at 8.32am on Monday, September 11 to a collision involving a van and a car on the Strood-bound carriageway of the Medway Tunnel.

“Officers attended the scene and the vehicles were moved out of the tunnel to another location.

“One person reported a minor injury.”

It comes after an accident this morning on the A229 Blue Bell Hill Maidstone-bound also caused delays.

Traffic was queuing between Common Road (Lord Lees Roundabout) to Lower Warren Road.

It has since cleared.
