Hayley and Ian Westlake liked seeing guests dig the dirt on wedding day

Diggerland has added its name to the list of top wedding venues in Medway after a couple held their reception there.

Hayley and Ian Westlake mixed the traditional with the unique when they tied the knot on Saturday, September 16.

After a ceremony at St Martin of Tours Church, Detling, family and friends joined them at the Medway Valley Park attraction.

While the adults toasted the bride and groom, children enjoyed riding on the diggers and dodgems.

Hayley, 41, said: “Our guests absolutely loved it. We cannot keep up with the amount of messages we have been receiving.

“We had the traditional welcome drinks, wedding breakfast and speeches and then let everyone loose.

“The kids in the family think we are the ‘coolest’ newlyweds on the planet and some of the adults have messaged us to say it was the best wedding reception they have ever been to, it catered for everyone.”

Hayley met Ian on a weekend away with friends in 2010, and two years later she moved from Hertfordshire to Detling to be with him.

The couple, who say they are big kids at heart, wanted to combine a white wedding with something that has never been seen before.

Ian, 45, said: “To see all of our friends and family having such a fantastic time was a great feeling.

“There were nearly 300 guests, so to be able to please so many people was a major feat.

“Seeing the children’s and some of the adults’ faces when the ice-cream van arrived was a priceless moment.

“For us the day was everything we could have wanted and much more.

“We have some amazing memories, with some amazing people, at a truly amazing venue – we just did not want it to end.”
