A young woman is being hunted after an elderly victim was targeted in a distraction burglary.

Detectives have released an e-fit of a suspect over the raid on a house in St John's Road, Gillingham.

The woman, in her 20s, told the householder she was feeling unwell to trick her into letting her inside for a glass of water.

She left a short time later - and the victim found her purse, containing cash and bank cards, had been taken.

The burglar is described as white, about 5ft 5in, of slim build and with dark, short hair. She was wearing a leather-style jacket and dark jeans.

She struck between 11.15am and 11.30am on Monday, September 26, but police have only just released details.

DC Rob Sircar advised residents to not let people you do not know into your home to help avoid becoming a victim of a bogus caller.

He added: "Elderly residents in particular are seen as an easy target so are advised to be particularly cautious and neighbours are asked to be aware of activity at elderly neighbours' properties."

Anyone who recognises the woman or can help with the investigation is asked to phone police on 01634 792166 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
