Firefighters in Rainham Road, Gillingham rescue dogs after chip pan fire

Dogs had to be rescued from a house after a fire started in a chip pan.

Firefighters are attended the blaze in Rainham Road, Gillingham, which began at about 1.50pm this afternoon.

Two fire engines were called to the property and there are no reported casualties.

Two dogs have been rescued from the house, a spokesman for the fire service confirmed.

The fire was out by 2.50pm.

The high pressure fan was used to clear smoke from the building and crews wearing breathing apparatus put out the flames.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service have issued advice to avoid similar incidents, advising to take extra care when using chip pans, remembering not to leave them unattended and to use a thermostat-controlled deep-fat fryer, which will make sure the fat doesn't get too hot.
