‘Explosion’ rocks street after car set on fire in Gillingham

Firefighters were called after a car was set alight – causing a noise which sounded like an “explosion”.

A crew attended Fox Street in Gillingham at 7.38am where the vehicle was found up in flames.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put the blaze out with a hose reel jet.

One witness said they heard a noise they described as an “explosion” before spotting the crews at the scene.

The crew recorded a stop time of 8.17am.

Although there were no reported injuries, the cause is being treated as suspicious.
