Flood in Strood care home

A care home in Strood was flooded this morning (Wednesday) after a water pipe burst.

Firefighters were called to Millstream House on Mill Road at 3.30am following reports of a water leak.

Crews spent an hour fixing the pipe and removing the water from the building, which cares for up for 20 adults with Huntington’s Disease or people who have suffered brain damage known as acquired brain injury.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "They had a major leak where a water pipe had burst in the ceiling of the first floor and flooded a corridor in the ground floor, which then spread into a wash room.

"We minimised the damage in the home and stopped anymore water leaking."
