Funeral of M2 crash victim Ronald Buckenham from Sittingbourne

The funeral service of an elderly man who was killed in an horrific crash on the M2 will be held next Thursday (September 27).

Ronald Buckenham, 80, was killed on the motorway at Gillingham, on Wednesday, September 5, when the car he was driving, a silver Nissan, hit the back of a Polish lorry.

Mr Buckenham, of Norwood Walk, Sittingbourne, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple injuries.

Mr Buckenham’s 74-year-old wife suffered injuries to her chest and abdomen.

Firefighters from Medway and Rainham cut the roof off the wrecked vehicle to help paramedics release her before she was airlifted to King’s College Hospital.

The crash, which happened at about 1pm, closed a section of the coastbound carriageway between the Gillingham and Chatham for around nine hours.

Mr Buckenham’s funeral service will be held at The Garden of England Crematorium in Bobbing, at 11am.
