Investigations were continuing today to find out how a stuntman died at the Kent County Showground.

The man was killed after a safety net is thought to have failed during a human cannonball stunt during a show put on by Scott May's Daredevil Stunt Show at the Kent County Showground just after 3pm yesterday.

The air ambulance was sent to the scene, but witnesses writing on this website said the victim was taken by road to Maidstone Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The spokesman added that the man was aged in his 20s but it was not yet known where he lived. The evening's daredevil stunt show was cancelled.

One woman who watched the show with her three-year-old son said she had been shaken when the stuntman, named only as Matt, landed right in front of her.

She said: "He was right in front of us and had blood coming from his mouth and was out cold."

A statement on the Scott May website said: "With our apologies, due to unforeseen circumstances all shows have been cancelled until further notice."
