Officers at the scene reviewed CCTV footage and seized parts of a vehicle that had appeared to have fallen off on impact.

BTP said the driver had done “substantial damage” and rendered the structure “unsafe”.

Now, officers say the culprit has come forward.

Posting today on X, formerly known as Twitter, BTP said: “We have now been contacted by a person who claims to be the driver.

“Their details have been recorded and a notice of intended prosecution will be sent out to them in regard to the offences of leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving.”

BTP has been contacted for further information.
