IT WAS lucky that no one was tending their vegetables when this lorry jack-knifed on the A228 at Cuxton, near Rochester.

This picture was taken by Medway Messenger reader Alan Wilson shortly after the HGV ploughed into allotments on Friday afternoon.

Alan said: "Luckily nobody was there tending their plots at the time. Otherwise it would have been tragic."

The picture is likely to be used by villagers in their campaign to persuade Medway Council to reduce the speed limit past their homes and to provide better crossing points for pedestrians.

They claim recently-installed "slow down" signs are not enough.
