Man taken to hospital after crash in St John's Road, Gillingham involving suspected stolen car being pursued by police

A man has been taken to hospital after being hit by the driver of a suspected stolen vehicle being pursued by police.

St John's Road in Gillingham remains blocked off by officers at the junction of Milton Road and Chaucer Road.

Police are still at the scene

Police were called at around 8.10am to reports of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian.

A man in his 50s has been taken to a London hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

The vehicle involved in the crash had been reported stolen in the early hours.

Prior to the collision patrolling officers had seen the car and were following it at a distance.

Neighbours reported a heavy police presence along St John's Road this morning near the Medway Bait & Tackle shop and the Dragon Inn Chinese takeaway.

Two police cars remain stationed at either end of the street while inquiries are conducted.
