Man in hospital after Rochester takeaway fire

A MAN was taken to hospital after becoming overcome by smoke after a fire broke out at the back of a takeaway.

Firefighters from Strood were called out to the food outlet in Rochester High Street in the early hours of this morning where they found some rubbish at the back of the building on fire.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We got the call at about 12.45pm. As we put the fire out, other crew members gave one man some oxygen at the scene before he was taken away by ambulance.

"We were on the scene for about an hour."

It is not known how the fire started.
