A man winched from a yacht in the River Medway after falling unconscious has died.

The 59-year-old was taken to hospital in an RAF rescue helicopter on Sunday afternoon.

The skipper of the boat, called Seduction, phoned 999 near Kingsnorth power station shortly after 4pm.

He said the man, believed to be from Otford, was unconscious and needed medical attention.

The Medway Coastguard, Sheerness lifeboats and an RAF rescue helicopter were sent to the scene.

The man was given emergency treatment at the scene before being winched into the helicopter and taken to Maidstone Hospital, but he later died.

The vessel was then taken back to its berth at Gillingham Marina by RNLI Sheerness inshore lifeboat.
