Gillingham and the council are in talks about marking the club’s League Two title success.

The Gills sealed their first championship in 49 years with a 2-2 draw against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

A packed Priestfield endured a nerve-shredding afternoon as the away side fought back from two goals down to level the match, but Gillingham held on to secure the point they needed.

Bus parades are common for triumphant teams, and a council spokesman said discussions were taking place about how to celebrate the achievement.

He said: "We’re hoping to [do something]. We’ve been talking to the club."

From Mad Dog to Top Dog: Manager Martin Allen takes in the achievement

Manager Martin Allen gave a lukewarm response to suggestions of a parade when asked after Saturday's match.

He said: “If Mr Scally tells me I have to get on the bus with all the players I will get on the bus but it’s not in my schedule."
