Police cordon off part of Cuxton Road in Strood as man taken to hospital with 'life-threatening' injuries

A large police cordon has been put up near a town centre after a man was assaulted.

A man is fighting for his life at a London hospital after the incident in Cuxton Road, Strood, at around 11.10pm yesterday.

Two police cars remained at the scene this morning, parked next to the blue and white tape near Gun Lane, opposite the junction with London Road.

The cordon starts at the London Road junction, near Papa Johns, and includes the Cuxton Road Car Sales and Halfords site.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 11.08pm on Sunday to a report that a man had been assaulted near Cuxton Road, Strood.

"The victim was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition. Inquiries are ongoing."

Businesses and residents in the area were unaware why the large cordon was put in place this morning.
