Thousands of people were left without power across Medway and beyond on Wednesday after a blackout affected large parts of Rochester, Strood, Hoo, Cliffe Woods and Cuxton.

Power went down just after 5pm and did not return to most homes for another two hours.

A UK Power Networks (formerly EDF) spokesman said during the blackout: "Several thousand customers are out of power. It is a high voltage fault and engineers are trying to secure alternative circuits."

The KM Group's Medway HQ was among many businesses hit but kmfm, which broadcasts from there, remained on air throughout.
