Barn fire closes Britannia Road in High Halstow

Firefighters are tackling a barn fire – the third such blaze to hit Kent farms in just four days.

Two large barns and a large haystack are understood to be alight at a farm in Britannia Road, High Halstow on the Hoo Peninsula.

Emergency services have closed Britannia Road in both directions from Longfield Avenue to A228 Sharnal Street, while firefighters tackle the flames.

Meanwhile, firefighters are still at the scene of a farm fire off Main Road in Sellindge near Ashford.

The fire there, which started yesterday evening, is now under control, but still burning.

At its peak, 14 fire tenders were present to tackle the flames. That has now been reduced to three.

A fire in a barn that started in the early hours of Monday morning at Blacketts Road in Tonge, near Sittingbourne, is thought to have been started deliberately.

Fire crews took four hours to extinguish the flames there.
