Rochester assault: Police appeal for witnesses

Detectives investigating an assault where a man was punched in the face, knocked to the ground and punched again, are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened on Rochester High Street, early on Sunday, January 22, at the Star Hill end near to the Wetherspoons pub.

Officers on patrol arrested two men at the scene at about 3.20am, but say they need help from witnesses to establish exactly what happened.

It is alleged one suspect punched a 20-year-old man who fell to the ground and was punch several more times, receiving bruising to his face.

DC Mark Silk who is investigating said: "It is very likely that other people would have been on the High Street at the time the incident took place and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.

"We are particularly keen to hear from a couple, a man and a woman, who we believe witnessed the assault take place.

"They may have information which would assist with our investigation."

A 20-year-old from Rochester has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and has been bailed pending further enquiries until March 24.

Another man, 18, also from Rochester, has been arrested on suspicion of causing affray and has been bailed until February 6.
