Rochester pervert guilty of sexually abusing girls

A pervert has been warned to expect a "significant" prison sentence after being convicted of sexually abusing two victims.

John Rigby assaulted one girl and then gave her "hush money" to stop her telling her mother.

Maidstone Crown Court heard the abuse by 52-year-old Rigby, of Grasmere Grove, Rochester, dated back several years but the victim did not report it until more recently.

Simon Taylor, prosecuting, said Rigby also molested another girl.

He denied six charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, 10 of indecent assault and six of indecency with a child.

A jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all charges except one of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, which was left on the court file.

Adjourning sentence for reports until a date after March 7 and remanding Rigby in custody, Judge Philip St John-Stevens said: "You must understand a significant term of imprisonment is almost, if not inevitable."
