Stimson willing to stick to winning formula

Stimson's wage budget has improved following Crofts' exit.
Stimson's wage budget has improved following Crofts' exit.

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson admits he is unlikely to make immediate changes to his team despite boosting his wage budget with the departure of Andrew Crofts.

Crofts joined Peterborough on loan on Wednesday until the end of the year with a view to making the deal permanent in January.

Gillingham have won their last three games, without conceding a goal and Stimson doesn’t want to rock the boat.

He said: “The money we’ve got will go towards something if we need to improve but to get someone in the squad now, with the way we’re playing, they are going to have to be good.

“Could I really leave anybody out at the moment? No. I think everyone is performing to near enough the maximum.

“You could bring a loan player in or give someone a contract and give someone the elbow and leave him out, then you might lose him for a few months. I won’t do that because everyone deserves to play at the moment.”

League 1 promotion chasers Peterborough will pay a percentage of Crofts’ wages – but not as much as Stimson was hoping.

“It’s good that we’ve released some money but it’s not as much as we would have liked because of the deal Andrew is on,” said Stimson.
