Taxis in Gillingham broken into

Several taxis have been broken into in Gillingham and cashtaken from inside.

Cab drivers are being urged by Medway Police not to leave their takings inside vehicles when they park up and leave them unattended.

The latest theft happened in Academy Drive, on Friday, November 13, when a white Vauxhall was broken into between 6.10 and 6.30pm.

It is not known how much cash was taken.

Police say there have been several other thefts from taxis during the past month or so.

One man has been charged in relation to two alleged thefts in Byron Road, on November 10.

Darryl Davies, 28, of Watling Street, Gillingham, was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle following the incidents and charged with two counts of theft on Monday, November 16.

He is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on December 9.
