Christmas light displays in Reedham Close, Cliffe Woods and Franklin Road, Gillingham, raise money for charity

There’s no chance of Santa missing the Broad family home on Christmas Eve thanks to their dazzling display of lights.

Andy Broad, 53, and his son Aaron 21, have spent months getting the decorations ready at their home in Reedham Close, Cliffe Woods.

At the first switch on of the season, Mr Broad also had a new bubble machine and a snow machine, much to the delight of local youngsters. So far the display has raised £317.37.

Usually the Broads raise money for the Kent Air Ambulance, but this year they are collecting money for Cliffe Woods Pre-School which needs £100,000 for a new home. Every night in December the pair switch on their display which features Father Christmas riding a motorbike, climbing a ladder and skiing.

Andy Broad said: “We are raising money for the pre-school this year as my wife is heavily involved in it, organising things, and so is Aaron’s girlfriend.

“We have people here every night. We leave a box out front for donations and bring it in at the end of the night.”

Barry Parrish, from Franklin Road, Gillingham, is also raising money for charity with his lights display. The 73-year-old is raising cash for the air ambulance.

The grandfather-of-six said: “I’ve put lights up gradually for 10 years, it started off with little things in the windows.

“This year my wife Ann and I have had a lot of medical issues. I had pneumonia and a suspected heart attack.

“The air ambulance is something that is vital. We’ve raised around £80 so far and we have envelopes outside out door so people can put money in them and post them through.

“We had a lady knock on our door to say thank you for the lights as she brought her grandchildren down to look at them.

“We’ve even had a letter through from someone to say thank you.”
