Chatham town centre's Union Place car park behind former Buzz Bingo considered for closure and redevelopment

A town centre car park is being considered for closure to be put up for sale and earmarked for development.

Medway councillors will decide whether to close Union Place car park in Chatham when they meet next week.

The car park neighbours the Spotlites Theatre and the A2 New Road and is just off Union Street.

It is close to the former Buzz Bingo building, which shut in 2020 and has since been earmarked for housing.

A report presented to cabinet members ahead of a meeting next Tuesday, October 18 says the 49-space car park sees only 45 pay-and-display tickets purchased on average each month.

The document notes how revenues have plunged since the start of the pandemic and the closure of the bingo hall.

Officers recommend the site should be put forward for redevelopment.
