Traffic queuing on M2 between Gillingham and Sittingbourne as heatwave drives day-trippers to Kent coast

Cars are already queuing on Kent's motorways, with crowds flocking to the coast to take advantage of today's heatwave.

The county is set to be hotter than Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera this afternoon, with forecasters predicting the mercury could rise to as high as 28C.

As a result, many have decided to make their way to the beach, with traffic moving slowly on the eastbound carriageway of the M2, between junction 4 for Gillingham and junction 5 for Sittingbourne.

Among the events being held today, is a screening of the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham at Margate's Dreamland.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
