Travellers pitch up at Chatham Riverside car park

Travellers have set up camp in a town centre.

Caravans have been seen in Chatham Riverside car park beside Chatham Community Hub, off Dock Road this morning.

It comes as travellers were asked to leave a shopping centre car park early this week.

They arrived at Rainham precinct on Sunday.

After the council ordered them to leave, they had departed the site by this morning.

It is not known at this stage whether it is definitely the same group of travellers.

James Brown, head of regulatory services at Medway Council, said of the encampment in Chatham: “We will be following a civil legal process to move the group on.”
