Vandals go on wrecking spree in Rainham allotments

Thousands of pounds of damage has been caused to allotments after vandals went on a wrecking spree.

Firefighters were called to the site in Lower Bloors Lane, Rainham, at 2.30am this morning.

Several plots had been set alight; three in one row and another nearby. Two crews from Medway fire station spent an hour tackling the flames.

Plot owners arrived this morning to find sheds have also been pushed over, fences have been trampled down and between 20 and 30 sheds have been broken into.

Pearl Weskin, 59, whose plot has been destroyed by the fire, said: "It’s heartbreaking."
