Chatham manager Alex O'Brien admitted his side's opening day defeat to Godalming was a wake-up call

Chatham Town boss Alex O’Brien was sent to the stands and Ray Powell sent off in their win at Walton & Hersham in Ryman League Division 1 South on Saturday.

The visitors also had six players booked and will be fined by the Football Association.

Powell saw red after a second caution for retaliating while O’Brien, pictured, was removed from the dugout after voicing his opinion once too many times for the referee’s liking.

Nonetheless it was a second away win in four days for Chatham, who lie four points behind leaders Worthing.

Defender Richard Avery headed in after Mark Green nodded back a far-post corner to put Chatham ahead in the 15th minute and striker Brendon Cass made it 2-0 three minutes later.

The hosts pulled one back when Ryan Lake scored with a disputed free-kick, but they failed to find another way through once Powell was sent off.
