A Gills fan who charged after allegedly leaping on the Wycombe goalkeeper during the match at Priestfield has appeared in court.

The boy, who is 17 and too young to be named, was charged with assault after allegedly jumping visiting goalkeeper, Jordan Archer, during the closing stages of the game on Monday, February 4.

TV viewers saw the incident at the Rainham End when the player was apparently knocked over as the match was being televised on Sky Sports.
Archer, who was preparing to take a goal kick in the 93rd minute, was able to continue playing the last few minutes of the match, which Gillingham lost 1-0.

The boy, from Chatham, was charged with common assault and going onto a playing area at a football match, under Section 4 and 5 of the Football Offences Act 1991.

He appeared before magistrates in Medway at a youth court this week but the case against him was adjourned for four weeks, so his solicitor, Alan Balneaves could write to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to ask it to consider giving the boy a caution over the offences. He has no previous convictions.

The boy was granted bail with conditions he must not go within one mile Gillingham Football Stadium for four hours before or after a match is on.
He is also banned from going within a five mile radius of any football stadium 24 hours before and 12 hours after a domestic or international match is being played.

If the CPS decide to continue with the prosecution the boy will next appear at the same court on April 9.
