Darts player Ross Smith is blaming a lack of confidence for his disappointing display at the Dutch Open last week.

Smith, who began playing darts in the Dover Invitation League and made his BDO World Championship debut at Lakeside last month, lost in the second round at Veldhoven and admitted he was struggling to find his best form.

"I played okay, but nowhere near my potential," the 20-year-old from Lordswood said. "I’m lacking in confidence at the moment and just need to concentrate on scoring some ranking points."

Smith has an early chance to do that against Mark McKinnon in the first round of the Scottish Open on Saturday February 21.
