Gills face away games in confident mood

Promotion-chasing Gillingham face a sequence of three consecutive away games, but manager Mark Stimson sees no reason for his side to hold any fears.

With Saturday's 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury at Priestfield, when only a last-minute goal by the visitors denied Gillingham a place inside the League 2 automatic promotion places, Stimson's men stretched their unbeaten run to seven games.

Gillingham face Notts County on Tuesday evening, they then take on Grimsby on Saturday before visiting league leaders Brentford the following weekend.

Stimson said: “We’ll approach the games with great belief and a good work ethic – and we’ll attack them.”

He added: “We’ll be looking to get some points on our travels and set the Brentford game up to go there still with a possibility of chasing that top spot.”

Saturday’s draw with Shrewsbury leaves Gillingham sixth in the table but only goal difference separates them from third-placed Rochdale.

Stimson said: “We’re knocking a few teams out of the way because of their results and we’re in there with probably 9 or 10 teams who can win promotion.

“We’re still in the race, and while we’re in it, we’re going to give it our best shot."
