Gillingham head coach Ady Pennock will take 'ugly win' over Port Vale

Gillingham head coach Ady Pennock admits this weekend might not be pretty.

The Gills are without a win in seven and desperate for points to pull clear of the League 1 relegation battle.

They host Port Vale at Priestfield on Saturday. It’s the first of a run of home games, with Pennock’s men playing four of their next five at Priestfield.

Pennock said: “The belief and attitude is there and we deserve that win now.

“It is not going to be pretty here. The pitch will be lively but we will need the fans behind us, like they have been from day one.

“It would be great to get those three points. I would take an ugly win anytime – and it will be ugly.

“We played some good stuff last Saturday and had good spells where we looked bright and were brave on the ball.

“We are improving every game and all I can ask for now is that win.

“If we win ugly, or win pretty, it doesn’t matter. We just need those three points.”

The Gills are five points off the drop zone and too close for comfort.

Pennock said: “We are not comfortable at the moment, I don’t feel comfortable.

“We have two big home games coming up now (with Chesterfield visiting on Tuesday night). If we can get maximum points or four from six, I would be more than happy.”
