Gillingham still hope to keep former Charlton striker Brandon Hanlan but he's in demand

Striker Brandon Hanlan has yet to sign a new deal with Gillingham and is being targeted by several clubs.

The out-of-contract striker has continued to be fully involved with the Gills during pre-season as they are keen to see him stay and agree a new deal - a second improved offer has already been made .

Gillingham would be entitled to compensation for the player even though his contract has expired as he is under the age of 24.

Gills boss Steve Evans says the 23-year-old has attracted interest this summer - following on from a bid that was rejected in January - and that the player is keen to talk with other interested parties.

If Hanlan goes without an agreement in place then a fee would be decided by a tribunal, like in the case of former defender John Egan .

Former Charlton forward Hanlan has been with the club for two years and has scored 13 league goals in that time, from 74 appearances.

Speaking after the 1-0 pre-season defeat at Leyton Orient on Saturday, where Hanlan was introduced as a second half substitute, Evans was asked about the striker's future.

He commented: “Two or three clubs have asked about him.

“We turned good money down from him in January. Brandon has said he would perhaps like the opportunity to talk to these people but they have to agree a fee first or he isn’t going anywhere.”

The Gills boss also spoke about speculation linking player-of-the-year Connor Ogivlie with a move away. Fellow League 1 side Portsmouth have been linked.

Evans was adamant he is staying, however, and said: “We turned good money down from a Championship club for Connor last January and he is certainly not going anywhere.

“He is on contract and will be for some time.”

Evans will hope to add to his squad this week ahead of their Carabao Cup first round match with Southend United on Saturday.
